Presently, there are two crores persons with disabilities living in India. Out of that, 19 lakhs consist of deaf people. In the history of India, the deaf people have suffered
lot of barriers mainly in education, communication, accessibility and employment. Please note that PWD 1995 was estabilished in 1995 for the disabilities which encouraged people of different
type of disabilities to gain their equal rights. However, deaf people didn't attempt to utilize this law due to lack of awareness of its value and effect in India.
But time has changed in 2013, when more and more deaf people are being awaken about the disabilities law. On February 2013, more than 30,000 deaf people gathered at New Delhi to demand their
rights. How are they fully aware of their rights? It is due to the technology which builds the bridge in communication gap.
In the past, as the other people of disabilities kept themselves updated of the law and situations by exchange of information via telephone contacts, radios / news announcements, etc. the deaf people were usually kept aloof.
But now thanks to technology, we have WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and website where deaf people learned loads of information that were missing in their past life.

To maintain this kind of valuable awareness for the deaf people, we developed this website www.rpwd.in with the following goals:
- Translation of the RPWD Act into disability-friendly language (such as Indian Sign Language)
- Online discussions/forum/votes on future amendments benefiting different kinds of disabilities. This will help the RPWD drafting team to propose proper amendments in law.
- To circulate the news and information on RPWD to maintain awareness.
We gave our huge efforts in the upgradation and maintenance of the website. Since the launch, the website have gained an average of 200-500 new visitors per day and the number of returning visitors are increasing.
To maintain the growth of this website, we the members of RPWD.in team sincerely request you for your support by means of annual sponsors/donations. For deaf associations, the minimum amount contributed as sponsor per year is Rs.1,000/- onwards. For companies/corporate, the minimum amount is Rs.5,000/- onwards.
